Feline Stress Reduction When Moving or New Cat Introduction
This works great for those strays that you are bringing into
your humble abode. This takes 3-7 days
to complete and your patience is much needed.
It is also best if you are not stressed as well because your cat will
pick up on this and become stressed by you.
The First Day
1.
Leave
your cat in the carrier when you get to your new destination or you have found
a stray.
2.
Put them in a quiet and dark room. You may also
put a dark towel or covering over the carrier.
3.
Go in the room once in a while and talk and give
them some love and console them.
4.
Feed them and give hem fresh water to drink and
see if they will use the litter box.
Day Two: is the same
as day one except you leave off the dark covering but leave your cat in the
same room. They will watch and see the
new surroundings without the added stress of something that may harm or they
may harm. You can leave the other
animals in and observe her reaction and their reaction. Let your cat and the others sniff and explore
each other for a bit. If they show
aggressive behavior then your cat or other are not ready for each other just
yet. Give it another day.
Day Three: Allow your
cat to roam the room in which she is in.
This would depend on your cat and how the previous day went. If it went well you can open the door of the
room that you have her enclosed I and let her explore the rest of the house and
the others around.
You and your cat should be fine now and have a lot less
stress in the move and the new surroundings.
You should have a happy home and everyone should be fine. If not you can always start over again. I have only had to do that once and I have
had many new cats to introduce to new surroundings.
