We had to take him to the Vets this week. He was coughing just like Buster was when we
found out that he had cancer. So while
we were there they spelled his name another way: Sydney. Either way he is the same cat. Hahaha! So what’s in a name?
I had to wash a carrier out completely. I have several as I have several cats and
some go to the Vets in pairs.
Hahaha! I don’t care where I put
these carriers or how I cover them, I still have to give them a good washing before
I use them. I cannot keep them in the
house as I don’t have all the much room to do so. This is a small house. I mean the bedroom and the home office is on
10’ by 10’. We don’t have a dining room only a great room with the kitchen and
the living room. The living room is
slightly larger than the kitchen at 10’ by 14.
Anyway there is no room to put these so they are under the house or on
the back deck.
Since he came in a very large carrier, big enough for a
medium sized dog, he was easy to get into this smaller crate that is roomy
enough for a small dog. He lived in the
larger crate for who knows how long. He
really didn’t like the trip on the road to get to our vet who is about 20
minutes away and in another state. We
live about 20 miles from the boarder that is West Virginia and Virginia. If the road was straight it would only take
us 10 minutes to get to the vet.
We got him in the vets and sat there in the waiting area for
about 10 minutes. It wasn’t that long at
all, but Sidney wasn’t too happy about it.
Good thing that his voice is just over a whisper.
We finally got into the exam room and it wasn’t too long
before the vet came in. I told him what
he was doing and how he came to us and that we had no idea about the health or
vaccinations that he might have had. So
they weighed him and took his temp. The
assistant said that he was a big boy and that he was s very pretty cat. He is on both accounts. I didn’t expect him to weight as much as he
did. He weighed 14.7 pounds!
He didn’t have a temperature so that meant that he did not
have any infection or was sick. That was
good! They did take him back and got
some blood from his so that they could do the Feline Leukemia and other blood tests
on him and we waiting in the room with Sidney free to go where he wanted in the
small room. I told them about how he
would bite me and how he was traumatized by his experience and to be care that
he may bit them. The vet spoke right up
and said that we would NOT bite him.
Hahaha! They have so much
confidence.
Sidney wrapped around my pant legs and I became another
Sidney. It takes about 15 minutes for
the test results. He also wrapped himself
around my husband’s pant legs too. He was
OK, but just a little not sure what was going on. I assume that he was afraid that he was going
to be left there because of his reaction when we got home too.
Since we didn’t know if he had all his shots or not the vet
gave him all his shots and we go back for a second round in 4 weeks. At this point in time he didn’t think that
anything would show up on x-rays if he did have anything to worry about such as
cancer. We still do not know how old he
is either. Being as that is the vet also
gave him a de-wormer just in case. All
of the shots that he got we were told that it wouldn’t bother him if he had
gotten them before. He is all set,
health-wise!
On the way home he started to pant and I knew that he was a
little sick to his stomach. I have seen
this many times. We did have to make one
stop on the way home and I had the windows open. While my husband was in the building I was
outside with Sidney and he finally lay down and was more relaxed……until we were
on the road again.
When we got home and I let him out of the carrier he was
looking around like it was a new, or expecting it to be, place and a new
home. I assured him that this is his
home and he is not going to be leaving it.
I assured him that this is his forever home. It took him about 15 minutes of getting
re-acquainted with his surrounding again.
I found that to be just a little bit strange, but it did give me an
indication of his past and his constantly being changed from one person to the
next and his being kept in a garage in that large carrier for who knows how
long
.
After eating and drinking some water he went to the bedroom
and lay on the bed. He stayed there
until the next day. They said that he
would and all the cats that I have now did that after their first shots
too. There was nothing new with any of
that. By the next evening he was doing
the normal things.
Sidney now has a better start and is going to be spoiled
just like all the other cats that I have and my dog Duke too. We are all one big happy family!
Until next week……
